Lexica to Pindar and Homer20 March 2003Perseus is happy to announce editions of two specialized lexica for the study of Greek poetry: Autenrieth's Homeric Dictionary and Slater's Lexicon to Pindar. The new lexica include the words in Homer and Pindar, with references to the text of these authors. When you are reading one of these texts, the Word Study Tool will offer you a link to the text-specific lexicon as well as links to the general lexica. Similarly, the Vocabulary Tool will supply links to the text-specific lexicon. When you are reading a different text, the Homeric and Pindaric lexica will be invisible. You can also use the Configure Display Tool to request more immediate access to these glosses. In the "Cross References" section, you may choose to have references from text-specific lexica presented as annotations in the text, just as you can request references from general lexica, commentaries on the text, or other works. In the "Lemma Mapping" section, you can control how those annotations appear -- with or without markers and italics in the text itself. The new lexica, like the general classical lexica, include displays of frequency tables, words with similar definitions, and collocation information. Perseus is grateful to William J. Slater for granting us permission to re-publish his Lexicon to Pindar, originally published in print by De Gruyter. Please report any problems to the Perseus webmaster. |
