The vase is in good condition, showing moderate discoloration and wear on the surface.
Decoration Description:
Side A: athletes. Athletes are shown preparing to compete. The naked youth standing in the center pours oil from an aryballos into his cupped hand. A naked youth wearing a wreath stands facing forward on the right, folding his mantle. A stool holding another mantle is positioned between him and central youth. On the far right a small, naked boy stands by to take the folded mantle. There is a third youth on the left, who stands with his back to the viewer, his head turned to the right where the kneeling boy holds one of his feet. The youth steadies himself by holding the boy's head with one hand and leaning on his staff with the other. Both boy and youth wear wreaths, and a mantle is draped loosely over the youth's upper arms.
Side B: athletes. Athletes are again shown preparing. A naked youth in the center holds a discus in his raised arms, his weight thrown onto bent, right leg. A second youth in a mantle stands watching, a finger pointed at the first youth's genitals. On the right, a third youth hands his mantle to the small boy on the far right, who raises his hand to receive it. On the far left stands another naked youth. He looks down at his genitals, which he holds stretched out in one hand, a string held in his other hand. Again, a small boy stands by ready to help, a mantle flung over his left shoulder. All the youths and boys wear wreaths.
