Decoration Description:
Side A: Herakles battles two Amazons. Herakles attacks to the right, his club in his upraised right arm, his left leg raised, his left arm clutching the right arm of a fallen Amazon. He wears a lion skin knotted at the throat with red-dotted fur. A sword hangs from a white baldric on his hip. On his back hangs an open quiver with red stripes. There are red dots on his tunic and beard. The Amazon has fallen to one knee, supported by the Theban shield on her left arm. She wears a short chiton and an Attic helmet with low crest. She carries a spear in her right hand and wears a sword on her right hip. Her tunic has red dots and white rosettes. A wrapped element at her waist may represent the prized girdle. A second Amazon attacks from the right, her spear in her lowered right hand, a round shield on her left arm. The shield has white balls for a device and red dots on shield edge. She wears a short chiton, a cloak over both shoulders, and an Attic helmet with stilted crest. A red fillet circles the helmet; a sword hangs at her hip. Red dots and a white rosette appear on both cloak and chiton.
Side B: two warriors fight over a third. At left, a warrior wears greaves, a short tunic, and a low-crested Corinthian helmet. A sword hangs at his hip. He has a spear in his right hand and a Theban shield in his left. The porpax is affixed with white palmettes. He grasps the handle on the inside. The warrior at right wears greaves, a Corinthian helmet with stilted crest, and carries a spear in his right hand. He also has a sword and baldric. His shield device is a chariot box. There are red dots on the tunics of both warriors. All shields have red dots on the edges. The fallen warrior has greaves, a short chiton, bell cuirass, and a Corinthian helmet with low crest. He has a spear in his right hand, and a shield on his left with two white balls for a device. His face is obscured by warrior at right. His back is visible. Perhaps the scene shows Ajax and Hector fighting over the body of Antilochos.
There is a lotus and palmette chain on the neck (no incision). A red fillet appears below the neck, black and red tongues above each scene. Lotus and palmette quatrefoils are seen below the handles. On the lower body there is a zone of rays with a band of lotus buds above.
