... devised the method of starting, and he appears to have been proud of the discovery, as on the statue at Athens he wrote the inscription:—Who first invented the method of starting the horses at Olympia , He made me, Cleoetas the son of Aristocles. It is said that after Cleoetas some further device was added to the mechanism by Aristeides.
