From Gen. Banks' column — a Slight skirmish. Sandy Hook, Aug. 19. --On Sunday evening, between 3 and 4 o'clock, a body of 300 Confederate cavalry came down to the landing of the ferry opposite, when two companies of Gordon's 2d Massachusetts Regiment fired, and the Confederates retreated. It is known that two are killed and five wounded. Our men escaped unhurt. The Confederates are still hovering on the outskirts of Harper's Ferry, watching the movements of the Federal troops.
Reported privateer Sumter. New York, Aug. 19. --The schooner Hannibal, from St. Thomas, reports that the privateer steamer Sumter was captured by one of our men-of-war, and taken back to Curacoa. The report is doubtful.
New York Bank statement. New York. Aug. 19. --The weekly statement of the city banks shows a decrease in loans of $1,266,508, an increase in specie of $1,103,874, a decrease in circulation of $214,656, and an increase in deposits of $30,357.
