The opening prices were not much below the rates of yesterday; but a report in regard to the Baltimore Banks, alluded to elsewhere, had a depressing influence and led to sales in the street at a considerable decline. The feeling was afterward better, but with little improvement in the way of sales. Sales in New York, Nov, 15, of $5,000 Va 6's at 86; $3,000 do, at $83, and $22,000 Tenn. 6's at 80¾ @ 81. The Philadelphia Inquirer, of Wednesday, says: In the money market we have to note a further advance in rates, and an increased stringency and distrust. First-class paper has been sold as high as 1 per cent. per month, and goes slowly even at that. Long paper. for the time being, is ruled out.
