he Rappahannock. In the Suffolk, Va., campaign, companies A and B were captured at Hill's Point, April 18, 1864. At the battle of Gettysburg the regiment captured the first guns taken by the Confederates. It was sent with Longstreet's corps to the army of the West in time to take a prominent part in the battle of Chickamauga, September 19th and 20th, where again its loss was heavy. It fought at Lookout creek, October 28th, and at Knoxville, November 17th; again at Dandridge, January 16 and 17, 1864. The regiment was sent back to Virginia in time for the battle of the Wilderness, May 5th and 6th; and was at Spottsylvania, May 7th to 12th, where its casualties were great; also at Hanover Junction, Second Cold Harbor, June1st to 12th; and Bermuda Hundreds, June 2d to 10th.
