aid. The case against Napoleon Burke and John Hammon, charged with unlawful trespass, assault and battery, was continued till the October term. Nancy, slave of Rachel Burruss, charged with a felony, committed on the 26th of August, in stealing a lot of goods from Jos. M. Skinner, was found guilty and sentenced to receive 30 lashes. The case against Jacob Herndon, for permitting his slave Jack to go at large and hire himself out contrary to law, was dismissed. Braxton, slave of Maria L. Hurt, charged with stealing $190 from Belvin & Atkinson on the 4th of September, was found guilty and sentenced to receive 39 lashes. Mary Lee, charged with stealing $100 worth of black cloth from John C. Shafer, was discharged from further prosecution. John J. Phelps, charged with stealing a horse in October last from.--Moore, was sent on to be tried before Judge Lyons, and the defendant, in default of $500 bail, was remanded to jail. On motion, the Court adjourned.
