ot many days after it was learned that Appomattox had intervened, which was followed by the surrender of General Johnston's army. Randolph P. Pinson Randolph P. Pinson was born in Laurens county, S. C., February 19, 1845. His parents were James M. and Margaret E. (Overbey) Pinson, and when he was a year old they removed to Mississippi, but after four years returned to South Carolina and located in Abbeville county, where his mother died in 1852. His father subsequently married Mrs. Margaret Austin (nee Nelson), who is still living, the father dying June 30, 1898, in his eighty-second year. Mr. Pinson received his education in the county schools of Abbeville county, and in March, 1862, he volunteered, but for some reason the company which he joined was not received. In March, 1863, he went to Charleston and enlisted in the Second South Carolina heavy artillery, under Colonel Lamar, stationed on James island, and in June, 1864, he was transferred to Company K, Nineteenth South
