ther. Two younger brothers also were Confederate soldiers: Frank, who fought at Bentonville, in Wright's company of sixteen-year-old boys, and George, who was a member of the home guard. From a period soon after the war until 1879 Mr. Nicholls resided in Alabama, then returned to Spartanburg, and in 1888 was elected sheriff of the county, an office he held for four years with much credit.
