, Fredericksburg, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, siege of Petersburg, battle of the Crater, Fort Harrison, and surrendered at Appomattox. After the surrender he returned to Sumter county and commenced farming, which he has followed since. He has been twice married, first in December, 1873, to Miss Lina E. Dennis, of Bishopville. She died March 21, 1880, leaving two sons, William M. and Robert D. Mr. Reid was married the second time, April 11, 1883, to Miss Mary E. Bradley, of Bishopville, and they have two daughters, Eugenia G. and Cornelia A. Three brothers of Mr. Reid also served in the Confederate army. Joseph F. Rhame Joseph F. Rhame was born near Willow Grove, in Sumter county (then district), S. C. His parents were the late Col. John C. Rhame and Mrs. Martha Rhame, nee Sanders. He was educated in the ordinary schools of Sumter district, supplemented by academical training at the Sumter male academy, the Lynchburg academy, and the Marion a
