Mayor's Court. --In the absence of the Mayor, Saturday, Recorder James K. Caskie officiated, disposing of the business before him in a prompt and business like manner. The first case called was that of a complaint against Timothy Costello, who, for some time back, has been regarded as an idle, dissolute person, and was believed to be a deserter from the Confederate army. Costello's mother, the only witness in his favor, claimed that her son was in no degree subject to military duty; he was two years old before she brought him from Ireland, and had never exercised the franchise of a citizen. As to his being of suspicious character, there was no proof against him, and she defied any one to successfully arraign him on that ground. The Recorder showed a disinclination to acknowledge the right of Costello's exemption on the plus of non-citizen, ship, and announced his determination to refer that matter to the enrolling officer.--Policeman Granger, who made the arrest, was ther
