astle Thunder yesterday on the charge of "garroting and releasing a prisoner (Jack Clark) from the guard." Some days since, Clark stole a very fine mule from PetersbuClark stole a very fine mule from Petersburg and rode him to this city. Information of the fact reaching the detectives here, the said Clark was arrested and committed to the Castle to answer the offence, wby him forwarded to the army court-martial.--Soon after leaving Castle Thunder, Clark obtained permission from the guard to visit Brown & Peasley's place of business around the neck and threw a sack over his head, thereby enabling the prisoner (Clark) to effect his escape. Describing the locality of the occurrence to Captain Do when they were taken to the chief-of-police office yesterday, the guard having Clark in custody readily recognized them as the persons who, the night before, threw ily recognized them as the persons who, the night before, threw the sack over his head and held him till his prisoner escaped. Clark has not yet been re-arrested.
Committed to Castle Thunder. --George Drew, convicted some weeks since of stealing four cows, the property of Dr. F. B. Deane, and ordered to be sold into slavery, was arrested yesterday afternoon and committed to Castle Thunder on the charge of aiding and abetting in the escape of Jack Clark, a prisoner in the hands of the guard.--Drew, who, before his trial by the Hustings Court, was considered to be a white man, became the property of William Peasley at the sergeant's sale, ordered by the court, and only a few nights since his reputed master was confined in the Castle for the same offence with which he is charged.
