Melancholy affair. --The Philadelphia Inquirer says that on Friday quite an affair occurred in the southwestern part of the city, which nearly resulted fatally. The facts of the case are these: A young man named Wm. Clement, residing in 20th street, above Lombard, had for some time been intimate, and with unfortunate results, with a young girl named Mary J. Stewart, residing with her father, who keeps a furniture store a few doors below. A few days ago the girl became a mother, and died almost immediately after giving birth to the child. On Friday, at 11 o'clock, she was buried, and as the funeral procession was passing the store where the young man was engaged at work, he saw it going by, and becoming very much agitated, he went from the room into another apartment. Immediately after the occupants of the room heard the report of a pistol, and proceeding to the spot, found the young man weltering in his blood, lying on his back in the middle of the floor.
