"Life of Stonewall Jackson" The long expected volume, from the brilliant pen of Major John Eaten Cooke, has made its appearance from the press of Messrs. Ayres & Wade, and comes up to the high expectations of the public. It not only gives an interesting and faithful sketch of Jackson's life, but abounds in personal incidents and anecdotes, illustrating the glorious character of the deceased, and is in itself an admirable history of the war. No one has had better opportunities than Major Cook of selecting the marvellous career of Stonewall Jackson, nor could a biographer be found whose pen could invent such a subject with greater interest.--We congratulate Major Cook on the masterly style in which he has prepared his work, and we congratulate the Southern public that their beloved champion lives again in such a production. The book is ornamented with an excellent likeness of Gen. Jackson, taken a short time before his death.
