statement to the effect that five men belonging to the 8th Georgia were killed yesterday by the explosion of a shell. The facts are as follows: The shell spoken of was the second one fired by the enemy, which unfortunately exploded near where a squad of men were sitting, striking and wounding five of them, from the effects of which three of them had died up to dark last night. I have not heard from the two others this morning, but fear one of them has breathed his last ere this. The other is in no danger, piece of the shall having only struck him on the back part of the right heel, simply breaking the skin. The names of these hart are R. C. Lawson, Color Corporal; J. J. Armstrong, W. J. Mullis, L. C. P. Jones. All of the above belong to Company G. Pulaski volunteers, the first three of whom are dead. The other belonged to the Atlanta Grays. His name is Frederick Crogg, and, as I before stared, but slightly wounded, Respectfully, yours, W. C. Dunlop, Captain 8th Georgia.
