e Army, is eminently qualified for the post. This company is now complete, and is armed and equipped and ready to march at short notice. A neat flag was presented to this company on Friday last by the ladies. The presentation was made by James D. Davidson, Esq., and it was received by the Captain and Sergeant J. C. Davis, both of whom responded to the brief, stirring speech of Mr. Davidson in most appropriate terms. The annual muster of the Eighth Regiment of Militia took place the sameMr. Davidson in most appropriate terms. The annual muster of the Eighth Regiment of Militia took place the same day — this regiment embraces the one-half only of the county, and notwithstanding two of its companies are now in service, there were in the lines, including three companies of volunteers, full 600 men, a larger number than usually turn out on such occasions. Old Rockbridge can readily send into the field, whenever it is considered necessary, at least ten companies of volunteers, who will know how to make their mark in an engagement. Let other counties do better if they can! The Liberty Hall

Obituary. Died, on the night of July 21st, at the "Lewis House," Frederick Davidson, second son of James D. Davidson, Esq., from a wound received at the battle of Manassas. He was a member of the "Rockbridge Rifles," in the Regiment commanded by Col., James F. Preston, and in the "Stone-wall Brigade" of Gen. Thos. J. Jackson. in all that gallant and herole band, there was no spirit more fearless and devoted than Fred. Davidson. The writer of this brief sketch saw him three days before the grand conduct in which he lost his life, and his gaiety and cheerfulness at the prospect of battle could not have been greater if he had been on his way to some high and courtly festival. In a daring charge made by his Regiment, he was shot through the body, but lived long enough to receive the consolations of anxious and religious attentions from friends and relatives who were associated with him in the same company. His last words were, "Tell my mother that I died in a glorious cause." L
