Mortality in different Departments of the U. S. Army. --A letter from Washington city has the following statement about the health of the Yankee army in the field: A table is being prepared in the Surgeon General's office showing the degree of mortality among white troops in the different military departments. The percentage of mortality in the army of the Potomac is three times greater than in the Department of the Pacific, and in General Grant's army it is three times greater than in the Army of the Potomac. This calculation refers to white troops. The percentage of mortality among the colored troops in the Department of the South is much less than among the white troops of the Department of the Pacific, showing that it is economy of life to use colored troops in the Southern Departments.
