City Council. --The monthly meeting of the Council was held last evening, the following members being in attendance: Messrs. Saunders, Grattan, Denoon, Haskins, Crutch Wynne, Epps, Scott, Burr, Griffin, Hill, and Glazebrook. Mr. Grattan, from the Finance Committee read a report in regard to the remission of taxes and fines, closing with the following resolution: Resolved, That if the persons and firms returned by the Assessor in pursuance of the ordinance passed the 29th day of iver improvement. On motion of Mr. Scott, the Committee on the Fire Department were instructed to inquire into the expediency of purchasing a second steam engine for the use of said department. A communication was received from the Mayor, nominating Pleasant Gentry, John D. Perrin, and Washington Griffin, for day police officers, in accordance with the recent ordinance. The nominations were confirmed. After some other business of an unimportant character, the Council adjourned.
