Rev. R. A. Arthur, of the Western Virginia Conference, has been elected Professor of Mathematics in the Ohio University, and has accepted. A young lady at Troy posted a letter with her friend's photograph on it for a name, writing beneath "Poughkeepsie, N. Y.," which recently reached its destination. The Legislature of Ohio has passed an act guaranteeing the bonds of the General Government to the amount of $2,700,000. Miss Hattie James, the vocalist whose dress took fire on the stage in New York last week, died on the 17th inst. H. F. Gorin, of Philadelphia, was accidentally drowned near Eddyville, Tenn., on the 13th inst.
