New mode of assault. --Mr. J. W. Lewellen was assaulted on Monday evening on his return home. (19th street,) by some unknown scoundrel, who adopted the Samsonian mode in making his approaches, which was so successful that the gentleman named was nearly knocked off of his feet by a huge boulder that left its impress on his sides. Another missile arrived with equal precision and utterly ruined a fine repeater with which it came in contact. Much has been said about boys indulging in rocky contests, but as the above attack could not have been perpetrated by boys, it would appear that parties of an older growth were contesting the palm of superiority with the juvenescent ragamuffins that infest the city at the present time.
