The Cary street murder. --Joseph John McCarthy, charged with the murder of his wife, Helen, at their late residence near the corner of 7th and Cary sts., on the 26th of November last, was before the Mayor yesterday for examination. Our readers will remember that at the time of McCarthy's arrest he was found sitting near the corpse of his wife — that he was covered in blood from head to foowith having taken the life of his wife he replied that she had attempted to take his life. McCarthy is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches in height, thick set, and rather amiable than othrough the mass of evidence, we may briefly state all the important facts in a very few lines: McCarthy, a shoemaker by trade, was a deserter from the army, and marrying Mrs. Morris some three months in a dying condition, her step-father lying upon the ground by her. The Mayor heard all the witnesses, and then remanded McCarthy for examination before a called Court, to be held next Monday.
