Violating the Market Ordinances. --A diminished number of cases of this character were disposed of yesterday by Recorder Caskie, with his usual promptness and good judgment. If all such violators were treated in a similar manner, it would not be long before these offences would be put a stop to. Patrick Sweeney, whose trial was postponed from Wednesday, underwent an examination yesterday morning on the charge of buying a load of melons to sell again. The evidence proved that Sweeney's wife made the purchase, which fact he seemed to think sufficient to ensure his dismissal. The Recorder, however, thought otherwise, and fined him $20. A similar fine was imposed upon John Minnis, for buying a load of potatoes in the First Market, which he intended to cell again. The potatoes were also confiscated for the benent of the city treasury.
