were, on yesterday, examined before Commissioner Sands on the charge of aiding H. J. Phelps to go to the Yankees, and A. J. Phelps, Third company Washington Artillery, was at the same time examined on the charge of intending to go to the Yankees. It appeared that Phelps, desiring to go North, communicated his desire to Truehart, who, undertaking to make him acquainted with a man who would put him through the lines, took him down to the Old Market and introduced him to Hughes. The conversation between Hughes and Phelps was overheard by a person, who ran up and informed Captain Maccubbin. Maccubbin sent two of his officers to arrest the parties. After his arrest, Phelps "squealed"--that is, confessed, and implicated Truehart and Hughes. Phelps "squealed"--that is, confessed, and implicated Truehart and Hughes. The whole party were committed to Castle Thunder — an institution that must, by this time, be reasonably full, unless there are more deliverance from it than we hear of. Truehart is said to be a Confederate Custom-house employee.
