ts Captain Wesley S. Pitts, of Laurens county, S. C., was born in Newberry county, S. C., June 20, 1840, the son of Moses Pitts, of Newberry county, and Lucinda (Brooks) Pitts. His father died in 1848 and his mother in 1854. He was reared on a Pitts. His father died in 1848 and his mother in 1854. He was reared on a farm in Newberry county, where he received his early education, and in January, 1861, he became a teacher, but soon resigned to enter the Confederate army, joining Company B, Third South Carolina battalion, as a private in December, 1861. He serve65, companies A, B and C of the Third battalion consolidated, forming Company F of the Third South Carolina regiment. Captain Pitts was appointed captain of this consolidated company and served as such until the surrender at Greensboro, April 26, 18arched to Laurens, S. C., a distance of 250 miles, where it disbanded. The march was made in ten days. Since the war Captain Pitts has resided in Laurens county, giving his attention to school teaching and farming.
