Ross, Alexander 1783-1856 Pioneer; born in Nairnshire, Scotland, May 9, 1783; emigrated to Canada in 1805; took part in Astor's expedition to Oregon in 1810. He wrote Adventures of the first settlers on the Oregon River; The Fur-Hunters of the far West: a narrative of adventures in the Oregon and Rocky Mountains; The Red River settlement, its rise, progress, and present State. He died in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Oct. 23, 1856.
