Scharf, John Thomas 1843- Author; .born in Baltimore, Md., May 1, 1843; joined the Confederate army at the beginning of the Civil War, and served in a number of important actions. After peace was concluded he engaged in mercantile business and newspaper work, and became a lawyer in 1874. His publications include Chronicles of Baltimore; History of Maryland; History of Baltimore City and county; History of Western Maryland; History of St. Louis; History of Philadelphia; History of Westchester county, N. Y.; History of the Confederate States Navy from the laying of the first keel to the sinking of the last vessel; and History of the State of Delaware.
