Hustings Court. --This Court of Magistrates sat yesterday, and disposed of the following cases: Absalom, slave to Mr. Walker, and Betay Allen, his wife, a free woman, were tried for stealing a hog from Moses Brooks. Absalom was convicted and ordered 20 lashes. Betay was acquitted. Essex, slave to Eliza Simms, and Ralph, slave to Sarah Tompkins, charged with stealing cloth from the Manchester Woolen Co., were convicted and sentenced to receive 39 lashes each. Ned, slave to Lewis Twyman, charged with stealing bags from the Confederate States, was convicted and sentenced to receive 39 lashes. Jim, slave to Henry C. Jenks, charged with stealing sugar and bacon from James H. Grant, was convicted and sentenced to receive 39 lashes. Cornelius Fells and Wm. Macklin, free negroes, charged with stealing sugar and bacon from Jas. H. Grant, were convicted and sentenced to be sold into absolute slavery.
