New tract. A very eloquent and impressive sermon, preached at Centreville by Rev. P. Slaughter, Chaplain of the 19th Regiment Virginia Volunteers, has been put in the form of a tract, and is admirably adapted for general circulation. The text is 18 Kings, 19-20. "Thus saith the Great King, the King of Assyria, what confidence is this wherein thou trustiest? Thou sayest (but they are but vain words) I have confidence and strength for the war.--Now on whom dost thou trust that thou rebell (but they are but vain words) I have confidence and strength for the war.--Now on whom dost thou trust that thou rebelled against me?" The subject is treated both in its political and religious aspect in a manner which cannot but be productive of general satisfaction and of spiritual good. Mr. Slaughter inherits from his patriotic ancestry of '76 the revolutionary fire which illuminates his fine discourses, and which is hallowed and tempered by the spirit of the Christian and the gentleman.
