Federal troops in Alexandria, to the Captain of the steamer Powhatan. It will be remembered that this company afterwards took the oath of allegiance and were released: Steamer Powhatan, Navy-Yard, June 6, 1861. We, the undersigned, now held by the United States as prisoners, desire to express to D. C. Woods, U. S. A, (acting captain of our boat,) our grateful appreciation of the kindness he has shown us. We hope that in his future career in life, those with whom he may come in contact may render his "times" as agreeable as he has made our sojourn with him. "May his shadow never grow less."
