General Taylor on the Alabama Legislature and Georgians.
--General Dick Taylor delivered, by invitation, an address, last week, to the Alabama Legislature.
In it he scored them soundly for their impotent militia bills, and asked them why they could not imitate the example of that noble and hospitable State, Georgia.
In Alabama, the militia of one county could not be ordered into another, no matter how pressing the emergency.
If the people of Alabama were resolved to do only what the law required, there could result no good in calling them out. Every party could be whipped in detail.
In Georgia the Legislature, called out all en masse, and the people responded nobly.
They had been led within the boundaries of another State without or complaint, and he had seen them on the battle-field fight like veterans.
In his short speech he was quite complimentary to Georgia and her people, and very severe on the Alabama Legislature for their dilatory conduct.
