Extract from a Yankee latter captured on Wheeler's raid into Cartersville, Tenn: Ohio, April the 28th, 1864. Ever Dear Brother: I seat myself this evening for the purpose of writing you a few lines, in answer to the kind letter which came to hand a few weeks ago. It found me well, and I sincerely hope when these few lines come to hand that they may find you in good health. There has been some sickness and deaths lately died a couple of weeks ago, also Peter Wolin died of the small pox at Columbus. His folks takes it very hard. His soldiering was of short duration, poor fellow; he is better off than a great many others. The independent companies have to start away next Monday, and then we will be left alone, but we must bear it with patience. I wish that you could get to come home this spring, but I suppose that would be impossible. --Tom talks of getting a boy to tend the farm. If he gets one and myself can help him; so I repeat, although we can get
