w me to express to the gentlemen of your command, my thanks for this testimonial of their kindness, and to assure them it will be very highly appreciated by me, as a memento of an agreeable acquaintance. When I offered to your company, during their encampment near my house, my professional services, it was without the prospect of reward, except the conscientious approval of my own breast, of doing what I conceived to be my duty; and, to avail myself the first opportunity, as a citizen of York county, to contribute to the 2nd Co. of Howitzers, my humble share towards liquidating the debt of gratitude, which we feel we owed to them, for the gallant manner in which they defended our homes from the invasion of a common enemy. The cordial manner with which I was always greeted by your men, and the expressions of gratitude which they invariably offered on every visit to them, both day and night, were to me evidence of the fact, that my services were kindly received and appreciated by them
