One hundred and seventy-two bales of cotton, belonging to R. L. Patterson & Co., was burnt at Hickory Station, on the Western North Carolina Railroad, on the 19th ult. Harmon Westervelt, for some time superintendent of the military telegraph lines in and around Charleston, was killed last week while hunting by the explosion of his gun. Major R. A. Balley, of the 22d Va. regiment, wounded at Droop Mountain, Greenbrier Co., Va. has since died. At a sale in Harris county, Ga., last week, mules brought the extraordinary price of $2,500 and $3,000 each — cash.
