A surprise --The Abingdon Virginian hears a discouraging rumor from Gen. Hodges's command, on its late expedition into Kentucky. It appears that, after skirmishing with a superior force of the enemy at Paintsville they fell back a few miles, turned their horses out to graze, and lay down to rest.
