t little food. I had also received messages during the day from General Schofield, at Kinston, and General Terry, at Faison's Depot, approaching Goldsboroa, both expecting to reach it by March 21st. During the 20th we simply held our ground and stalated. During the 23d and 24th the whole army was assembled at Goldsboroa; General Terry's two divisions encamped at Faison's Depot to the south, and General Kilpatrick's cavalry at Mount Olive Station, near him, and there we all rested, while I dirnd to-morrow shall ride into Goldsboroa.
