Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch.Affairs in Halifax. Halifax Co., Va., May 9th, 1861. Some time last winter, most of the Richmond papers noticed a publishing house in your city, under the style of Johnson & Browning, organized for the purpose of publishing a Family Atlas. For some months past a man with his wife, traveling in a top buggy, and calling himself Layton, has been canvassing this county obtaining subscribers to said Atlas. He obtained a large number of subscribers to said work. Some three or four weeks since he and his wife became objects of suspicion to some of our citizens, and he was requested to quit here, and it was thought he had done so. I see from your issue of the 8th inst., that he had shown himself again at Halifax C. H., and the letter of J. W. Craddock shows the feeling about the village towards him. The suspicion is not confined alone to the vicinity of the Court-House, but is becoming general. This man Layton professed to be from
