that there is not brisk skirmishing between the pickets of the contending parties, which generally results successfully to our cause, and the foe is made to feel that every step of his onward march is to be marked with the loss of men and horses. A few evenings since, some twenty-five or twenty-six prisoners were brought to this city by Capt. John Henderson, of Ashby's Troop. They were captured in a skirmish on Saturday. On Sunday quite an exciting little fight took place near McGaheysville, in which portions of the cavalry companies of Captains Baylor and Shands were engaged on our side.
