H. Strong, commanding U. S. S. Monongahela: * * * * * * * After passing the forts, I saw the rebel ram Tennessee head in for the line. I then sheered out of the line to run into her, at the same time ordering full speed. I struck her fair, and swinging round poured in a broadside of solid 11-inch shot, which apparently had but little, if any, effect upon her. Soon after, signal was made to my ship to again run into her. I did
