. Mr. Greeley made a motion to the effect, that no officer of the navy should be promoted, as long as there were owners of the higher rank unemployed.
Feb 14th. Mr. Greeley submitted the following resolution.
Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire whether there be anything in our lcitizen of the latter, to renounce all allegiance and responsibility to the former. Objected to. The resolution, was therefore, according to the rule, withdrawn.
A proposal having been made that the New Mexico and Texas Boundary Question be referred to the Supreme Court, Mr. Greeley objected, on the ground that the majority of the members of that Court were slaveholders.
The Committee to whom had been referred Mr. Greeley's Land Reform Bill, asked leave to be relieved from the further consideration of the subject.
Mr. Greeley demanded the yeas and nays.
Refused. A motion was made to lay the bill on the table, which was carried
