Mr. Hatton, of Tenn, made a conciliatory speech. Mr. Kellogg made a speech in favor of his resolutions, amending the Constitution. He said he repudiated his party platform for the sake of the Union. He did not speak to the politicians, but to the people of all parties. Mr. Smith, of N. C., followed in a conciliatory strain. He said his State would not be a party to the destruction of the Union as long as there remained a hope of maintaining her rights within it. He advocated Crittenden's resolutions.
