Gen. Scott publishes a card in the National Intelligencer, begging not to be annoyed with applications for offices over which he has no control, by letters of which he does not read five in thirty. The Methodist Church on Elk Run, in Barbour county, Va., was consumed by fire on last Thursday night. The church was but recently built, at considerable cost. Experiments are about to be made at Vincennes, France, with a steel cannon, which we are told, will blow both Whitworth and Armstrong out of water.
