Drunkenness --This vice does not seem to be indulged in to any great extent by white topers, owing to the judicious order of the City Council shutting up the bar-rooms at 10 o'clock at night, and a general dislike of being seen intoxicated in the day-time, by even topers, unless they are nearly played out. The colored population, however, indulge as usual, owing to the fact that they always get their liquor from the groceries in contraband style. The watchmen, on Tuesday night, fell in with, and took possession of, Andrew James, colored, who, besides being drunk, had no free papers. Being brought before the Recorder, yesterday, that officer sequestered him from general observation for sixty days, by putting him to work in the chain-gang.
