The firing into the Glen Cove.
We gave yesterday a statement of the firing of a U. S. Government schooner upon the James river steamboat Glen Cove, a vessel engaged peacefully in her river trips, and which was forced to leave one of her regular landings by this outrageous proceeding.--Stone Wharf, where the outrage occurred, is on James river, in Surry county, about twelve miles this side of Hampton Roads.
It would be a good position for a battery, but there is nothing of the kind there.
The two steamers, Jamestown and Yorktown, might be armed so as at least to be efficient for clearing the stream of the small craft of the enemy.

Queen of may.
--The ancient, but this year neglected, custom of crowning the Queen of May, was revived a few days since at the Camp of Instruction, Central Fair Grounds, by the Lynchburg Home Guard, one of whom was chosen Queen of May, with all the ceremonies — maids of honor, &c. --incident to such an occasion.
Amid the plaudits of the assembled crowd, the Queen of Beauty was led forth from his cattle stall, where he had been duly and magnificently metamorphosed into one of the fairer s, Central Fair Grounds, by the Lynchburg Home Guard, one of whom was chosen Queen of May, with all the ceremonies — maids of honor, &c. --incident to such an occasion.
Amid the plaudits of the assembled crowd, the Queen of Beauty was led forth from his cattle stall, where he had been duly and magnificently metamorphosed into one of the fairer sex, and mounted the throne in the most graceful manner imaginable.
The Queen was crowned with a wreath of pine tassels.
