spired with courage enough (by taking with them a superior force) to make an attack on our troops, stationed at Bethel Church, 10 miles from Hampton. They were repulsed twice at 10½ o'clock A. M.; but betting on their numbers, as they always have done, they again rallied, when they were driven off with a loss of three hundred men.
