Nor is this the only feather in the cap of old Goochland. She has but a population of 4,000 white inhabitants, and she has already 450 volunteers, either in the field or preparing for active service. She had 350 up to July Court, when Walter D. Leake, Esq., having been released from service in the Convention by the adjournment of that body, proclaimed his determination to raise a volunteer company. In a few days his ranks were filled, and we understand his company will be down to-morrow, to undergo the preparatory drill. We have no doubt Capt. Leake will make an excellent officer, and will carry into the field a body of men equal to any in the Confederacy.
