To Hon. William Smith, of Fauquier: --it is the purpose of a large number of your fellow-citizens of the Ninth District to vote for you as their Representative in Congress; and it is their wish that you should sanction their intention by announcing yourself a candidate. The larger portion of the District you have served long and ably, and to the citizens of the other counties you are no less acceptable; and, permit us to add, that to our admiration of your fidelity and efficiency as a representative, you have added a new claim upon our sympathies and gratitude by the alacrity and gallantry you have displayed in battling with the enemy. But we particularly desire, for ourselves and our country the benefit of your talents and experience in the councils of the Confederacy at this time, when such vast interests depend on the wisdom of our legislators. [oc 7--1t] many Voters.
