the 20th ult. The cotton gin of Mrs. Dr. Frank Nailer, of Vicksburg, Miss., was consumed by fire a few days ago, destroying twenty-five bales of cotton and all the ploughs. The Home Ægis, an electric journal, chiefly devoted to agriculture, mechanics and domestic economy, is the name of a paper just started at Little Rock, Ark. Dr. William H. Brown, of Columbia, Tennessee, shot and killed Dr. James N. Carpenter, of that vicinity, on the 28th ult. The difficulty originated from an old grudge. Salt works have been established and put in operation at five different points in Smith county, Texas, within the past few weeks. The entire militia force of Prairie county, Texas, has been ordered out for the defence of the State. Wm. B Easley, of Hickman, Tenn., a highly respected and prominent citizen, died at that place on the 27th ult. A Texas paper says the Government of the State of Chihuahua is giving $350 for every Indian scalp taken within the State.
