Attempting to Herbe an officer of the Confederate States. --Allusion has been made to the arrest of John Henson, a citizen of Fluvanna, and E. E. M. Hughes, a Patent Agent, which was affected on information lodged by Rufus R. Rhodes, Commissioner of Patents, and Americus Featherman, a clerk in the Patent Office, to the affect that Henson did, on or about the 1st of January, 1862, offer to an officer of the Government of the Confederate States, a bribe, or present, or reward in money, or cause it to be offered, with intent to influence the decision of said officer in a matter pending before him in his official capacity. The case was partly heard before Commissioner Watson about ten days since, and was adjourned to yesterday, as which time, besides other evidence, that of Mr. Rhodes, Commissioner of Patents, was given in. The fact that Hughes had offered a bribe to the officer, seemed so clearly established that the Commissioner sent him on for trial before the February term of th
