neighborhood of our Lines on the Charles City road, early Saturday morning, and had halted, a reconnoitering party of some sixty Federal cavalry came within a mile or more of its rear guard, and halted at the house of Mr. Nathan Euroughty, alias Darby, and treated the old gentleman with much rudeness and vulgarity. Mr. Euroughty was nursing a sick grandchild at the moment of their unexpected visit; nevertheless he was cuffed and ill-treated, and taken prisoner, his residence despoiled and property stolen.--Mr. Euroughty, Jr., alias Jim Darby, was fortunate in escaping. He saw the enemy approach, and jumping out of a window concealed himself until their departure, when he sought safety within our Lines. In token of the appreciation in which Gen. Stuart holds the good conduct, daring and gallantry of those who were fortunately participants in his extraordinary and astonishing expedition, he has issued the following General Orders, which are highly flattering to the detachments
